Sentinel Door Systems is proud to announce the completion of a major door installation project at a new 200,000 sq ft distribution centre in Sheffield.
Project Overview
The project, completed in December 2024, involved supplying and installing:
- 8 x Insulated Sectional Overhead Doors (6m x 5m)
- 4 x High-Speed Doors for internal traffic management
- 2 x Fire-Rated Roller Shutters
- 1 x High Speed Helix Door for the cold store entrance
- Multiple Steel Personnel Doors
The Challenge
The distribution centre operates 24/7 with continuous vehicle movements. The client needed doors that could handle intensive use while maintaining temperature control across different zones within the building.
The cold store section required particular attention, with doors needing to maintain a -25°C environment while allowing efficient forklift access.
Our Solution
For the main loading bays, we specified 67mm thick insulated sectional doors with high-speed electric operators. These provide excellent thermal performance (U-value 0.5 W/m²K) while operating fast enough to maintain traffic flow.
The cold store entrance uses a high speed helix door, combining insulated sectional panels with rapid automatic operation. This gives the client the thermal performance and security expected from a sectional door while reducing open times during frequent vehicle movements.
Internal high-speed doors manage traffic between warehouse zones, with safety systems specified to suit intensive forklift movements.
Installation Approach
Working on an occupied site required careful coordination. Our team worked in phases, completing each zone before moving to the next to minimise disruption to operations. Night shifts were used for critical installations that couldn't be completed during working hours.
The entire project was completed on schedule over a 6-week period, with the client's operations maintained throughout.
